LA KREWE RUSH CROWNED DELTA BASIN DIVISION CHAMPS

The road to the Delta Basin Division championship started with the first game of the year for La Krewe Rush.

LA Krewe Rush opened the season at home versus longtime rival, Hattiesburg FC. It was both clubs’ WPSL debut after years of regional league play where Hattiesburg FC was reigning champions.

A surprise 3-0 win over longtime rival Hattiesburg FC to open set the tone for LKR’s division championship run in front of a big and boisterous home crowd that supported the club throughout the entire season.

“The support from our fans was unreal,” John Plumbar, LA Krewe Rush head coach, said. “It was also the first time that we beat Hattiesburg FC, so the game showed growth from our players and the program.

LKR rode the momentum off the historic opening win to another two wins before picking up its only loss of the regular season at Mississippi Blues SC. LKR rebounded from the loss with a pair of wins, followed by a pair of draws to Mississippi Blues SC at home and Hattiesburg FC on the road to close out the season to go 6-2-1 put LKR four points clear at the top of the Delta Basin Division, and a berth into the Gulf Coast Conference final.

Winning the division championship is a huge achievement and means everything to us. For the players, it validates the hard work, sacrifice, and dedication they’ve put in all season,” Plumbar said. “Many of them juggled school, jobs, and travel just to compete at this level. To come out on top is incredibly rewarding. For the club, it reflects the strength of our program, the quality of players at hand, the quality of our coaching, and the support of our community.”

At the offensive end, Salma Elhaimer (McNeese State University 2022- ) led the club and division in scoring with 10 goals, the lion’s share of the 21 goals RKR scored over its eight-match regular season schedule. Nine different players contributed to the balance of the club’s regular season goals.

Goalkeeper Lauryn Starwood and LKR’s defensive unit led the Delta Basin with nine goals against. Starwood appeared in seven of the club’s eight regular season matches, posting a .71 goal against average and three clean sheets.

As Delta Basin Division winners, LA Krewe Rush advances to face Third Coast Division winners, Pensacola FC in the Gulf Coast Division Final July 2, with the winner advancing to the South Region Playoffs July 12 and 13.
