ROYALS AZ WIN FIRST CONFERENCE TITLE

There are new Queens of the Desert Conference for the 2025 season. Royals AZ edged two-time defending conference champions, SC del Sol, by a single point to claim its first Desert Conference title.

Royals AZ were crowned conference champions following a statement-making 6-1 win over Desert Dreams F.C. to close out the season 6-1-1.

“Winning the division championship is a testament to the resilience, depth, and character of this group. For the players, it’s a well-earned reward for their commitment during a short, intense season. For the club, it reflects the strength of our development model and the pride we take in representing Royals AZ at the highest level,” Summer Anderson, Royals AZ co-head coach, said.

Royals AZ set the tone of the season early with an epic come-from-behind win over reigning conference champs SC del Sol to kick off the season.

“That win showcased the grit and mentality of this team,” Anderson said.

Royals AZ would go on to post a conference leading 37 goals over the course of its eight-game season. Golden Boot candidate, Larkin Thomason (University of Alabama 2023- ) tallied eleven goals over eight appearances to lead the club in scoring, followed by Ellie Johannes (Grand Canyon University 2023- ) with nine goals in seven appearances.

Anderson cited gritty defensive performances throughout the season in front of a rotating goalkeeping corps that allowed 14 goals.

“We had a unique situation with our goalkeeper rotation, using five different keepers through the season,” Anderson said. “Despite the constant adjustments and quick turnarounds, the group embraced the challenge and stayed committed to the team’s goals.”

Anderson said as successful as the season was on the field, it is the off-field growth of the players that is most impressive.

“The season was full of moments that defined what it meant to wear the Royals crest,” she said. “The chemistry, energy, and commitment from the entire squad were truly special. The players embraced the summer and made the most of every session and every match. “We’re proud of their growth and hope they return to their college programs sharper, stronger, more prepared, and ready to lead.”
