CLARKSTOWN TAKES METROPOLITAN CONFERENCE TITLE

The Metropolitan Conference has long been one of the most competitive in the entire East Region, with multiple clubs with long, rich WPSL histories. So, it was only natural that when Clarkstown Soccer Club moved over from the Northeastern Conference for the 2025 season, just how competitive it would be against all new opposition.

A 2-0 win over SUSA FC, last year’s Metropolitan Conference winners, followed by a 3-1 win over STA to start the season answered those questions early as Clarkstown rolled unbeaten (7-1-0) to the Metropolitan Conference title its first season in the conference.

“This is a great accomplishment that we are all so proud of,” Danny Samimi, Clarkstown Soccer Club head coach, said. Being able to win two different conferences within the East Region is very cool.”

The only blemish on Clarkstown’s record was a 0-0 draw to New York Athletic Club in Matchweek Five. After that, Clarkstown went on a 4-0-0 run outscoring opponents 12 to two, closing out the season with a conference-clinching 6-1 home win over STA.

That Clarkstown was able to kick off the season as well as it did came as a surprise to Samimi. With several returning players unavailable due to injury early in the season, Clarkstown kicked off the season with a makeshift roster as players returned to fitness.

“Our roster numbers were lower than expected because we had some injuries to start,” Samimi said. “So kicking off the season with a 2-0 win over a very good SUSA team was a highlight.”

It was very much a group effort that pushed Clarkstown over the finish line this season. Of the 20 goals Clarkstown scored over eight games, academy standout Maya Nuwayhid led the side with three goals—all of which came in the club’s season finale 6-1 win versus STA—followed by Abby Daly (Siena College 2023- ), Amalia Cardo (Villanova University 2024- ), and Sofia Miller (Binghamton University 2024- ) with two goals each.

At the other end of the field, Clarkstown led the conference with just three goals against on the season. Goalkeeper Kayla Bower (St. John’s University 2022- )started every game in goal for Clarkstown, posting a .38 goal against average.

Clarkstown Soccer finished the regular season seven points ahead of second-place Downtown United Soccer Club (5-0-3) and Brooklyn City F.C., both finishing with 15 points on the season and identical records.
