The 27th season of the Women’s Premier Soccer League kicks off tonight with a Gulf Coast Conference clash between Pensacola FC and TLH Reckoning. The two clubs are part of an 11-club expansion in the Gulf Coast Region that sees 10 clubs new to the WPSL, and welcomes back two-time WPSL champions Pensacola FC to WPSL competition as part of the partnership that brought the Gulf Coast Premier League under the WPSL banner.

Pensacola FC returns to WPSL as one of five teams to win multiple WPSL titles: in 2012 (as the Gulf Coast Texans), and in 2019. In total, Pensacola FC made five trips to the WPSL Championships, falling in the semifinal to the San Diego SeaLions in 2013, in the 2017 final to Fire & Ice (St. Louis), and in the 2018 final to the Seattle Sounders Women.

Pensacola FC enters the 2025 WPSL season coming off a second-place finish in the Gulf Coast Premier League, falling to back-to-back champions, Hattiesburg FC. The two clubs could potentially meet again in the Gulf Coast Conference Final when the Delta Basin and Third Coast division meet at the end of the regular season to decide the Gulf Coast Conference champions.

The 2025 season is TLH Reckoning’s first in the WPSL. Based in Tallahassee, Fla., the club is a pre-professional destination for the next generation of professional prospects that’s made up of local, national, and international talent drawing from one of the top women’s collegiate programs in the country just down the street. With entry in the WPSL, the club looks to build on its inaugural record of 3-2-7.

This year, TLH Reckoning expanded its academy program creating a full-time feeder system for reserve and first teams. From conception, the club has sought to plant deep roots in the community. The Reckoning, founded by one of the most successful architects of the modern women’s game and a Florida State University alum, launched its community ownership model, offering fans around the world the opportunity to contribute to the development of the next generation women’s soccer players and the women’s game.

Tonight’s match in Pensacola is the first competitive meeting between the two clubs. TLH Reckoning hosts the return match Saturday, May 31.
