The roster of WPSL alumnae now playing in the professional ranks grew when Metropolitan Conference mainstay, STA, announced two players off its 2024 WPSL team signed professional contracts.

Since the New Year, Jamie Irwin, a defender from Roxbury, N.J, signed with Australian second division side, Bundoora United FC and Sydney Masur, a midfielder hailing from Montclair, N.J. signed with Danish side, Fortuna Hjørring.

Irwin came up through the STA program and captained the STA WPSL team in 2024. She played collegiately for Bryant University and the University of New Hampshire, where she was a four-time First Team All-Conference selection.

"I’m so excited to sign and play this upcoming season with Bundoora United. It’s been my dream to play at the higher level since I was a kid, and now actually having the opportunity to do so is incredible, Irwin said.

Irwin appeared in four matches for Bondorra so far.

STA Girls Academy Director Kelly Sims said Irwin’s journey is an inspiration for the next generation of STA players aspiring to the professional ranks. “Your story is truly inspiring to many, and I am so glad STA was able to share this journey with you,” Simms said.

Masur, a four-year standout at Indiana University, made 68 appearances for the Hoosiers over her collegiate career which included two All-Big Ten Academic honors, All-Big Ten Freshman Team honors, and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023.

“Playing professional soccer has always been a dream of mine, Masur said. “I’m especially thankful for the teammates and coaches who have supported me throughout my journey, helping me reach this point. I look forward to continuing my development, both as a player and as a person, with my new team.”

Since joining the club over the league’s winter break, Masur has one goal in four appearances for the league-leading club.

“I never had any doubt Sydney would go pro,” Kaite Quinlan, STA WPSL head coach, said. “She is a natural leader and a fighter who commands respect in midfield. She will be a loss to our organization, but we are proud of her achievement and can’t wait to follow her professional journey in Denmark and beyond.”
