AUSTIN RISE FC WINS BIG AT HOME IN LONE STAR CLASH
FOR THE SOUTH REGION MATCH OF THE WEEK

Austin Rise FC and Classics Elite SA met in the South Region’s Match of the Week on Friday at House Park in Austin, Texas. Austin Rise came away with the 3-1 victory over Classics Elite in this top of the table clash, handing Classics its first loss of the season. 
 

Austin opened up the scoring in the 13’ minute with Tatiana Leggiero’s (University of Texas Permian Basin) shot from the top of the box, assisted by Lily Erb. 

The Rise went up 2-0 in the 30’ minute thanks to an own goal. 

JP Giammalva scored Austin’s third goal off a free kick in the 48’ minute. 

Classics Elite pulled one back in the 68’ minute when Mikayla Cunningham found the back of the net, assisted by Nia Leslie. 

Austin was able to hold off Classics Elite’s attack in the last 20 minutes and secure the 3-1 win. 

 “Our success can really be attributed to two things,” Tom Morrill, Classics Elite SA head coach said. “The availability of players and quality in the right moments. We were just missing some of that depth on Friday.” 

Classics Elite bounced back on Sunday, drawing Futbolera Select 1-1, and also defeated the San Antonio Runners 8-0 earlier in the week. 

This win was Austin’s only match of the week and the Rise will be back in action on Wednesday and Saturday in Week 8, looking to continue to push for the top spot in the conference. 

Around the rest of the Lone Star Conference in Week 7, the Houston Aces won 9-0 against the San Antonio Runners on Friday. On Sunday, SouthStar FC beat San Antonio 8-0. 

Classics Elite remains at the top of the Lone Star Conference, with Austin Rise FC right behind in second place. The Houston Aces sits in third, followed by SouthStar FC in fourth, Futbolera Select in fifth, and the San Antonio Runners in sixth. 

Looking ahead to Week 8, on Wednesday, Futbolera Select hosts the Houston Aces and San Antonio hosts Austin Rise. On Friday, Classics Elite faces off against SouthStar. Austin Rise plays again on Saturday as they host Futbolera Select. Finally, on Sunday, SouthStar faces off against Houston.
