RECAP: LONE STAR ROUND TABLE

WEEK SIX ROUND TABLE IN LONE STAR CONFERENCE

 

The Lone Star Conference saw five matchups in Week 6 play, including Austin Rise FC and SouthStar FC facing off twice. 

 

AUSTIN RISE FC 1 - 1 SOUTHSTAR FC 

House Park, Austin, Texas

Wednesday, June 12


Week 6 kicked off with the first of two meetings between Austin Rise FC and SouthStar FC, this one resulting in a draw. 


The two teams remained scoreless through the first half but it was SouthStar that would strike first, with Lauren Omholt (Purdue University) scoring. 


Austin’s Tatiana Leggiero (University of Texas Permian Basin) equalized for the home side, making the final score 1-1. 


The draw puts Austin Rise FC at 2-2-1 and SouthStar FC at 1-2-1. 


 

HOUSTON ACES 2 - 2 FUTBOLERA SELECT 

The Village School Field, Houston, Texas 

Wednesday, June 12 


Wednesday saw another draw as the Houston Aces and Futbolera Select finished 2-2. 


Houston opened the scoring in the 22’ minute when Kennedy Baquero’s shot beat the keeper near-post. 


Futbolera equalized immediately, with Kailey Aguirre scoring off of the restart. 


Futbolera then took the lead in the 40’ minute when Josilyn Kispert found the back of the net. 


The Aces equalized in the 54’ minute, thanks to an outside-the-box shot from Alexis Fowlkes (University of Houston) that landed in the upper-corner of the goal. 


The draw put the Houston Aces at 2-1-2 and Futbolera Select at 0-2-1. 


 

SOUTHSTAR FC 1 - 2 AUSTIN RISE FC 

North Texas Soccer Stadium, Denton, Texas

Saturday, June 15 

 

The second meeting of the week between SouthStar FC and Austin Rise FC saw Austin come away with the win. 

 

SouthStar started out on the front foot with Omholt scoring her second goal of the week in the 7’ minute. 


It would take until after halftime for Austin to break through, but in the 62’ minute the Rise found an equalizer thanks to Brigid McElderry (Samford University). 


Towards the end of regulation, Hailey Sapinoro (University of South Carolina - Upstate) scored the winning goal. 


The win puts Austin Rise FC at 3-2-1, sitting second in the conference standings. SouthStar FC falls to 1-2-2, sitting at fifth. 


 

FUTBOLERA SELECT 8 - 0 SAN ANTONIO RUNNERS 

Dulles High School Stadium, Sugar Land, Texas

Saturday, June 15 


This match saw four different goal scorers for Futbolera Select in its 8-0 win over the San Antonio Runners. 


Emily Jaimes (Houston Christian University) scored four goals, while Daniela Salinas, Alejandra Puerto, Isabella Marinaro, and Kispert all scored one each. 


The win puts Futbolera Select at 1-2-1, sitting fourth in the table, while San Antonio falls to 0-0-5 and stays in last place. 


 

CLASSICS ELITE 1 - 1 HOUSTON ACES 

Blossom Stadium, San Antonio, Texas 

Saturday, June 15


Classics Elite and the Houston Aces drew 1-1 as Classics Elite remains undefeated. 


Classics Elite struck first in this match, in the 54’ minute, when Kaitlin Graeber scored thanks to an assist by Taylor Jernigan (Texas A&M University), who won the South Region Player of the Week in Week 3. 


The Aces equalized quickly, scoring in the 57’ minute off a long-range shot from Baquero, who netted her second goal of the week. 


The draw puts Classics Elite at 4-2-0, sitting at the top of the table and the Houston Aces at 2-2-2, sitting third. 



Week 7 looks to be another busy one in the Lone Star Conference, including a matchup between top teams Classics Elite and Austin Rise FC in the South Region Match of the Week.
