RECAP: SUNSHINE CONFERENCE WEEK 6

WEEK SIX ROUND TABLE FROM THE SUNSHINE CONFERENCE

 

Week 6 in the Sunshine Conference saw four games played, including a statement win by FC Prime to stay on the top of the table.

 

 

FLORIDA GULF COAST DUTCH LIONS FC 2 - 4 SEMINOLE ICE 

Paradise Coast Sports Complex, Naples, Florida 

Saturday, June 15 

 

Seminole Ice defeated the Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions 4-2 in the first Week 6 match in the Sunshine Conference. 


Seminole Ice opened the scoring in the 5’ minute, as Ava Krooker (Stetson University) found the back of the net. 


Krooker then got herself a brace in the 11’ minute, scoring again and putting her team up 2-0. 


Victoria Pou Varona (Catholic University) then made the score 3-0 in favor of the visitors in the 37’ minute. 


Emma Heijstee pulled one back for Florida Gulf Coast in 42’ minute, assisted by Aidan McCausland. 


Seminole Ice scored its final goal in the 52’ minute, thanks to Jalen Haas (University of Central Florida). 


The Dutch Lions were able to pull one more back in the 89’ minute from an Esther Juretzka (University of Maryland - Baltimore County) goal, assisted by Reese Mendenhall (Florida Gulf Coast University). 


The win puts Seminole Ice at 2-1-1, sitting fourth in the conference standings, while the Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions fall to 2-0-2, sitting fifth. 

 


 

FUSION FC 0 - 5 FC PRIME 

North Port High School, North Port, Florida 

Saturday, June 15 

 

FC Prime dominated Fusion FC in a 5-0 victory that keeps FC Prime sitting at the top of the Sunshine Conference. 


FC Prime’s first goal came early, in the 6’ minute, as Barbara Garcia (Florida International University) scored off a throw-in by Carolyn Beltran. 


Francesca Brito (Lynn University) then converted a penalty in the 18’ minute, putting FC Prime up 2-0. 
 

Then, in the 24’ minute, Guilianna Johnston (Rice University) scored FC Prime’s third goal, thanks to an assist from Arianna Rodriguez. 


In the 30’ minute, Brito converted another penalty, upping the score to 4-0. 


Brito then completed her hat trick in the 46’ minute, thanks to an assist from Johnston, making the final score 5-0. 


The win puts FC Prime at 4-1-1, sitting at first, while Fusion FC falls to 1-1-2, sitting sixth in the conference. 

 


 

WEST FLORIDA FLAMES 1 - 0 CAPE CORAL CYCLONES

JC Handly Sports Complex, Brandon, Florida  

Saturday, June 15 

 

The West Florida Flames beat the Cape Coral Cyclones 1-0 to remain undefeated on the season. 


The Flames’ goal came from Sydney Weslowski. 


The win puts the West Florida Flames at 3-3-0, sitting second in the conference, while the Cape Coral Cyclones fall to 1-0-2, sitting in seventh. 

 


 

JACKSONVILLE ARMADA FC 4 - 0 AGC FOOTBALL 

Southern Oak Stadium, Jacksonville, Florida 

Sunday, June 16

 

The Jacksonville Armada beat AGC Football 4-0 in another solid performance from the expansion side. 


Jacksonville’s first goal came in the 9’ minute as Olivia Jarrell found the back of the net thanks to an assist by Bella Pontieri (University of North Florida). 


In the 27’ minute, Logan Gonzales (Jacksonville University) scored the Armada’s second goal and Pontieri picked up her second assist of the night. 


Taite Trivett scored Jacksonville’s third goal in the 44’ minute off a cross from Paige McSwiggan. 


Then, in the stoppage time of the first half, Sarah Brunner scored the fourth and final goal and Trivett picked up an assist. 

 

The win puts Jacksonville Armada FC at 3-2-1, sitting in third, while AGC Football falls to 0-0-5, sitting in last place in the conference. 


Week 7 in the Sunshine Conference has six scheduled games, including table leaders FC Prime hosting Seminole Ice on Saturday.
