POWER RANKINGS - WEEK 5

Published Jun 12, 2024

With upsets galore in Week 5 play, there is movement up and down the National Power Rankings presented by SouthStar Systems. FC Dayton reclaimed the No. 1 position after last week’s top team Nashville Rhythm F.C.'s shocking loss to then-unranked UFA Gunners dropped it to No. 21.

The surprise team of the year so far, Arlington Soccer, moved up three spots to claim the No. 2 spot, followed by Sioux Falls City FC, up seven spots to No. 3, and San Francisco Nighthawks, up two spots.

Entering the Top 25 for the first time are UFA Gunners in at No. 16, the Utah Surf in at No. 17., 865 Alliance at No. 20, FC Milwaukee Torrent at No. 23, and the San Diego Strikers at No. 25.

1. FC DAYTON (6-0-1)

Central Region — Midwest Conference — Gateway Division

Week 4 Rank:  2

FC Dayton reclaims the No. 1 spot after a week in second with a win and a draw over the weekend. Unbeaten at 6-0-1 (19 pts.), the runaway leaders of the Gateway Division have an eight-point cushion at the top of the standings thanks to a 2-1 win at Lou Fusz Athletic on Saturday, followed by a 1-1 draw at Junction FC Sunday.

Jenna Hallbeck tallied her fifth goal of the season in the win and Peyton Kohls scored Dayton’s lone goal in the draw at Junction FC. Kohls leads all Gateway Division scorers with six goals this season.

Next up – Dayton travels to FC Pride (3-2-1, 10 pts.) on Tuesday and hosts Lou Fusz Athletic (3-2-0, 9 pts.) Dayton beat FC Pride 1-0 in Week 4, and Lou Fusz last week.

2. ARLINGTON SOCCER (4-0-0)

South Region — Atlantic Conference — The District Division

Week 4 Rank:  5

Still perfect in its debut WPSL season, Arlington Soccer jumped three spots on the strength of a 5-0 win at McLean Soccer on Sunday. The win gives Arlington a three-point cushion over McLean Soccer at the top of The District Division standings with 12 points. Arlington has conceded only one goal this season, scoring 15 over four games.

Kate Hawley tallied a hattrick in the win, bringing her total to a team-high four goals on the season. Jocelyn Lohmeyer and Ellie Stokes rounded out the scoring for Arlington. Stokes now has three goals this season and Lohmeyer has two.

Next up – Arlington looks to extend its lead at the top of the table Saturday versus McLean Soccer (3-1-0) Saturday.

3. SIOUX FALLS CITY FC (4-0-0)

Central Region — Northern Conference

Week 4 Rank:  10

Shutout wins over Minnesota Thunder and Manitou F.C. bumped Sioux Falls up seven spots from last week. On Friday versus No. 9 Minnesota Thunder, Yui Fujii opened scoring, followed by Week 4 Central Region Player of the Week, Mia Mullenmeister, to close out the 2-0 win.

Sioux Falls traveled to Manitou F.C. two days later, scoring six unanswered goals. Katharina Oelschlaeger kicked things off in the first half with her third goal of the season, followed by Mullenmeister, tallying her team-high sixth goal of the season. In the second half, Fujii scored her second goal in two games, and Kaydence Ramirez scored twice, bringing her season total to three. Week 4 Rank:  6

A convincing 4-1 win at San Ramon FC last Sunday moved the Nighthawks up two spots to its highest national ranking yet. The club’s perfect 4-0-0 (12 pts.) record has it atop the Pac North Conference standings.

The highest ranked side with a loss this season, the Utah Avalanche slipped three spots after struggling to get past the winless Utah Red Devils last Saturday. Sevan Castain continued her torrid goalscoring streak, banging in two, along with Kennedy Heavrin. Saturday’s 5-4 win gives the defending Wasatch Division champions a two-point cushion at the top of the table over both La Roca FC (4-0-1) and Utah Surf (4-1-1).
