FC PREMIER WOMEN'S BIG WEEKEND THROTTLES IT INTO FIRST PLACE IN THE SO CAL CONFERENCE'S COASTAL DIVISION STANDINGS

FC Premier Women 3-2 MISS KICK FC

On Friday, June 7th, FC Premier Women took down the No. 1 team in the standings in MISS KICK FC at the Saint Anthony Athletic Complex.

FC Premier Women won 3-2 after a plethora of first-half goals coming from Vicky Pugh in the 7’ minute, high school senior Savannah Hutchins (North Carolina State University commit) in the 12’ minute and Abbey Cook (University of Pennsylvania) in the 29’ minute.

The trio was all over the stat sheet as Hutchins recorded assists on both Pugh’s and Cook’s goals, and Cook assisted on hers.

Head coach Aaron Rodriguez, who also is the head coach at Saint Anthony High School, gave a special shout-out to Pugh who was called up from its younger team and scored only seven minutes into her debut.

Rodriguez also said the game plan was to be on the front foot and execute early, something they did successfully as scored three times in just 29 minutes of play.

Fast starts were the story of the game as MISS KICK FC started the second half with two goals from Alyssa Moore (University of California-Irvine) and Madison Beckley in the first three minutes.

FC Premier Women’s defense came up big and kept MISS KICK FC scoreless in the last 42 minutes of the game.

After the game, Rodriguez talked about what had to happen to continue the momentum into Sunday’s match against Beach Futbol Club.

“Staying healthy and well rested is going to be key as we had a close game versus. Beach last week where we led for 70 minutes before letting our lead slip away,” Rodriguez said. “If we can stay competitive throughout the full 90 then we should have a very good game on Sunday.”

FC Premier Women 1-1 Beach Futbol Club

Sunday’s game lived up to the expectation as FC Premier Women and Beach Futbol Club battled hard in a 1-1 draw.

Rodriguez says a tie isn’t the result they were looking for, but it certainly isn’t the worst outcome.

Beach Futbol Club struck first with a goal in the 12’ minute by Nadia Link-Gonzalez, her first goal of the season, that was assisted by Shannon Davidson, who now has two goals and two assists on the season.

For FC Premier Women, Hutchins scored once again in the 40’ minute on an assist by Cherrie Cox (Long Beach State University).

This weekend, Hutchins was all over the field, and the stat sheet, with two goals and two assists in only two games.

“Savannah Hutchins definitely stood out this weekend and offered a lot going forward,” Rodriquez said.  “She scored the only goal but had many chances throughout the game.”

Rodriguez also said a big part of their game plan was playing with more defensive urgency throughout the game, which was evident by only giving up one goal, and keeping Beach Futbol Club scoreless after the 12’ minute.

With this win and tie, FC Premier Women moved up the ranking from third place to first place in the Coastal Division standings.

“This weekend was all about seizing the opportunity to move up the ranking and we did,” Rodriguez said. “The goal was not to lose this weekend and that plan came to fruition.”
