ROUND TABLE: SUNSHINE WEEK 4

Week 4 in the Sunshine Conference was a busy one, with seven matches and all the teams finally joining in on the action.

 

FC PRIME 3 - 1 DADE COUNTY FOOTBALL CLUB 

Autonation Field at Nova Southeastern University 

Wednesday, May 29 


In the teams’ first of two games this past week, FC Prime won 3-1 over WPSL newcomers, Dade County Football Club. 


Dade County opened the scoring in this match, with Emily Rodriguez scoring in the 51’ minute. She was assisted by Claudia Rodriguez Caglianone. 


FC Prime equalized right away, however, as Emily Thompson (University of Central Florida) netted her first goal of the match in the 52’ minute. She was assisted by Catarina Bastos (University of South Carolina - Upstate). 


Thompson got her second goal in the 63’ minute when she tapped in a rebound off of Lilly Nava’s (University of Central Florida) blocked shot, who was credited with the assist. 


Thompson completed her hat trick just two minutes later in the 65’ minute, once again assisted by Nava. 


The win put FC Prime at 2-0-1 on the season while Dade County fell to 0-1-1. 


 

FLORIDA GULF COAST DUTCH LIONS FC 0 - 4 JACKSONVILLE ARMADA FC

Friday, May 31 


Expansion side Jacksonville Armada FC defeated the Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC in the Dutch Lions’ home opener. 


It was off to a bad start for the Dutch Lions in the 35’ minute which gave up an own goal, putting Jacksonville ahead 1-0. 


Jacksonville capitalized on that advantage and scored a minute later in the 36’ as Bella Ruggiano (Northwestern State University) found the back of the net. 


Then, in the 52’ minute, Paige McSwigan scored the third goal for the Armada. 


Olivia Jarrell scored in the 85’ minute, capping off Jacksonville’s 4-0 victory. 


The win put the Jacksonville Armada at 2-1-0 while the Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions fell to 0-0-1. 

 

SEMINOLE ICE 3 - 3 FUSION FC

Saturday, June 1


Seminole Ice and Fusion FC drew in a high scoring affair for Fusion’s first match of the season. 


The scoring started early on in the 2’ minute and Seminole Ice struck first when Ava Krooker (Stetson University) found the back of the net, assisted by Mia Asenjo (University of Central Florida). 


Fusion FC equalized quickly, however, scoring in the 6’ minute with Gabriela Gracia getting the goal and Elizabeth Hall recording the assist. 


Then, in the 11’ minute, Seminole Ice took the lead again, with Asenjo getting a goal for herself. 


After halftime, Fusion came out on the front foot and scored two goals quickly. One was scored by Lauren Smith, assisted by Katherine Triola and the other was scored by Ellise Rennie, assisted by Hall. 


In the 61’ minute, Seminole Ice’s Keeley Harden was issued a red card. 


Despite being down a player, Seminole Ice evened  up the score at 3-3 in the 63’ minute, with Asenjo getting a brace and Emily Legler getting an assist. 


The draw put Seminole Ice at 0-1-1 and Fusion FC at 0-1-0. 


 

WEST FLORIDA FLAMES 0 - 0 FC PRIME

Saturday, June 1 


The West Florida Flames and FC Prime drew, with neither team able to find a breakthrough. 


This was FC Prime’s second game of the week and West Florida’s first of two games in two days. 


The West Florida Flames remained undefeated after this match at 2-1-0 and FC Prime improved to 2-1-1. 


 

CAPE CORAL CYCLONES 2 - 0 JACKSONVILLE ARMADA FC

Saturday, June 1 


The Cape Coral Cyclones won 2-0 over Jacksonville Armada FC in its first match of the season. 


The two goals in this match were scored by Jasmine Perez-Acosta (Alabama A&M University), who has previously been called up to the Costa Rica Women’s National Team.


The win puts the Cape Coral Cyclones at 1-0-0, sitting at the top of the table, while Jacksonville Armada FC falls to 2-1-1. 

 

DADE COUNTY FOOTBALL CLUB 1 - 1 WEST FLORIDA FLAMES

Sunday, June 2


Dade County Football Club drew the West Florida Flames in Dade County’s home opener. 


Dade County got off to a fast start with Natalie Woodward scoring her corner kick in the 4’ minute. 


The Flames would equalize in the 53’ minute thanks to an outside the box shot from Sydni Dennis (University of Tampa). 


The draw puts Dade County Football Club at 0-2-1 and the West Florida Flames at 2-2-0. 

 

 

 

FLORIDA GULF COAST DUTCH LIONS FC 2 - 1 AGC FOOTBALL

Sunday, June 2


The Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC defeated AGC Football for its first win of the season. 


The Dutch Lions scored first in the 34’ minute, with Genevieve Sauers (Idaho State University) scoring off a Aidan McCausland corner kick. 


Florida Gulf Coast then went up 2-0 in the 53’ minute, Jacinta Igot scoring, assisted by Reese Mendenhall (Florida Gulf Coast University). 


AGC Football pulled one back in the 85’ minute thanks to a goal from Sarah Medina, assisted by Sofia Rua. 


The win puts the Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions at 1-0-1, while AGC Football falls to 0-0-3. 


 

Week 5 is another busy week in the Sunshine Conference, with five matches kicking off this weekend. On Friday, the Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions take on Fusion FC. On Saturday, Seminole Ice hosts the Cape Coral Cyclones and Jacksonville Armada faces off with the West Florida Flames. Rounding out the weekend on Sunday, Fusion FC hosts AGC Football and FC Prime take on the Dutch Lions.
