RECAP: AUSTIN RISE FC, HOUSTON ACES

AUSTIN RISE FC SHUTS OUT NATIONALLY RANKED HOUSTON ACES TO EARN WIN IN HOME OPENER

 

Austin Rise FC and the (#20) Houston Aces met Friday night in the South Region Match of the Week at House Park in Austin, Texas. The Rise came away with a 1-0 upset victory over the nationally ranked Aces. 


Austin started off on the front foot offensively in the first half and had most of the chances throughout the first 45 minutes. 


The home side finally capitalized on its chances in the 44’ minute, when Hailey Sapinoro (University of South Carolina - Upstate) found the back of the net following a corner. The goal was assisted by Alexis Lawerence.

After halftime, it was Houston that came out strong offensively and the Aces continued to press for an equalizer throughout the second half. 


The Rise was able to hold off the Aces’ attack, however, and secured the team’s first win of the season. 


Around the Lone Star Conference, Classics Elite SA defeated Futbolera Select 3-2 on Friday night as well. Classics Elite SA sits atop the Lone Star Conference standings with two wins in two matches. 


Austin Rise FC is back at home on Friday, May 31 to face the San Antonio Runners in its WPSL debut. The Houston Aces have two Week 4 matches, facing Futbolera Select on Wednesday, May 29 and Classics Elite SA on Sunday, June 2.
