THE WPSL ADDS RENOWNED PENNSYLVANIA YOUTH CLUB AS A MEMBER OF ITS 2022 EXPANSION CLASS

LANCASTER, Pa. (December 30, 2021) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League announced today, Pennsylvania Classics will join the league for the 2022 season. With the announcement, the Classics become the league’s third 2022 expansion team in its East Region to date.

We are thrilled to be joining the WPSL for the upcoming 2022 playing season,” Doug Harris, Pennsylvania Classics president, said. “Our partnership with the WPSL will give our area’s women athletes a chance to play and compete in the highest level national amateur soccer league in the country – a truly special opportunity for serious players.”

Pennsylvania Classics was born almost two decades ago when Doug Harris’ Leeds FC and Steve Klein’s Gunners FC merged as one. Harris now serves as the Classics’ club president and Klein as its director of coaching. The club was formed with a mission of providing quality soccer development and education to the youth players of central Pennsylvania.

In 2007, three years since the merge, the club developed a 34-acre complex with 10 turf and grass fields to call home. With the addition of this soccer complex, the club now hosts and runs five annual soccer tournaments that feature 2000 participating teams.

Since growing to a club of 900 players, the Classics were admitted to the inaugural USSF Development Academy. To date, the Classics have seen several players advance to both collegiate and professional levels in both the men’s and women’s game including Christian Pulisic of Chelsea FC and the USMNT, and Teresa Rook who played in the W-League with Ottawa Fury in 2011. Rook was also announced to the James Madison University Hall of Fame in October of this year.

For the club’s inaugural WPSL season, Todd Hoffard will serve as the team’s head coach. Hoffard will be coming off a four-year coaching stint with Real Salt Lake of the MLS.

We are pleased and fortunate to announce that we have hired Todd as our head coach and [he] will be taking over the coaching reigns in our inaugural season,” Harris said.
