WPSL WELCOMES RETURN OF ICONIC AMERICAN SOCCER CLUB TO LEAGUE PLAY
OKLAHOMA CITY (1/22/2025) — The Women’s Premier Soccer League is thrilled to announce the return of Bavarians United SC for the 2025 WPSL season. Today’s announcement reunites the largest women’s pre-professional league in the world with one of the most iconic clubs in American soccer history. The club joins WPSL veteran, FC Milwaukee Torrent and expansion side, Milwaukee City AFC in the talent-rich Milwaukee market.
“Bavarian United is very excited to be back in the WPSL and rekindle our rivalries with the other WPSL teams in Wisconsin and continuing to promote the women’s game through the Midwest,” Tom Zaiss, Bavarians United Soccer Club general manager, said.
One of the oldest and most successful amateur clubs in American soccer, Bavarian United was founded in 1929 as Fussball Club Bayern, a multi-sport club by German immigrants, winning nine men’s soccer national championships over the club’s history. After fielding girls and women’s teams for decades, the club launched its fully-staffed girl’s and women’s program over the 2011-12 season, followed by its pre-professional women’s program in 2020. The club made its WPSL debut in 2021, amassing an 11-3-4 record over two seasons.
Head Coach Chris Hadley will oversee Bavarian United’s return to WPSL play. Along with his duties overseeing the club’s top women’s side, Hadley serves as head coach of the women’s soccer program at Carroll University, a NCAA Division III program in Waukesha, Wis. Before joining the Pioneers, he served as a volunteer-assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The WPSL will unveil its official alignment for the 2025 season at its Annual General Meeting in Oklahoma City later this week.
