WPSL COMPETITION IN NEW YORK CAPITAL DISTRICT REACHES NEW HEIGHTS WITH ADDITION OF ALBANY RUSH

OKLAHOMA CITY (1/2/2025) — The Women’s Premier Soccer League is excited to announce Albany Rush as the newest club for the 2025 season, furthering the league’s growth in the New York Capital District market.

“Being part of the WPSL is vitally important to our club, both on and off the field,” Brian Gordon, New York Rush general manager, said. “The WPSL team allows our former players the opportunity to play during the summer to prepare for their college season, in addition to playing with the best local players from across the Capital District.”

Albany Rush was founded in 2021 as a continuation of the Northeast Rush youth program which began a year earlier with the mission of providing local players an unparalleled soccer experience while competing at a high level during the summer months. The club enters the WPSL on the heels of its most successful season, qualifying for the postseason for the first time and placing multiple players on all-league honors.

Gordon will lead Albany Rush’s WPSL debut in his fifth season at the helm of the women’s program. Assisting him are Albany Rush’s Girls’ Director of Coaching, Garrett Cobb, Director of Coaching, Helen Nkwocha, and Corey Terpening, who serves as an assistant coach for Russell Sage College’s women’s program.

In partnership with Northeast Rush and the Salvation Army, the club creates extended playing opportunities for its community by raising funding for player scholarships through the organization’s Rush C.A.R.E.S initiative that serves players and families in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York.

With the announcement, the Albany Rush joins the New York Shockers in the New York Capital District to create a much-anticipated rivalry between the two clubs, along with teams throughout the highly competitive northeast region.

The WPSL will unveil its official conference alignment for the 2025 season at its Annual General Meeting in Oklahoma City in January.
